Olujiyan Olusegun Isaiah is a member of the league of new school artistes that have embraced music as a means of self-expression and creative freedom. He is better known by his stage name, Klassic, and he is a fast emerging act, thanks to a style of delivering verses that is unique and a beat selection that always hits the spot.

Klassic’s music boasts of youthful energy and vibrancy akin to the capital city of Ondo state where he was born and bred. While it is not exactly a city known for producing musical talent, Akure still speaks the universal language of music, and Klassic’s street-hop side was definitely cultivated during his primary and secondary school days in Ondo’s capital. A short trip down to Ekiti State University for his tertiary education opened his young mind to more possibilities. Despite his budding talent, he made sure to take his sweet time before officially launching his music career, a calculated move that paid dividends.

His debut single featured Mohbad and was titled “See Finish”. The 2019 track carried the signature tempo of Street-hop songs but it was really the seamlessness in Klassic and Mohbad’s rap verses that sold the song to the proportion of the general public that embraced it. “Joromi” and “Posh” were released soon after, and while the sound varied, the energetic and carefree nature of Klassic’s rap stayed the same. He ended the final quarter of the following year by releasing his debut EP titled “Love & Light”, a 9-track collection of fine Street rap laid over various iterations of Afrobeats sounds.

Now well into his second year in the industry, Klassic has shown a willingness to grow and be a student of the game. That growth is best captured on his latest release, “Special”. The song is a collaboration with Vulpine, a singer who balances Klassic’s rap verses very well indeed. Both artistes are in near-perfect sync as they render an ode to a romantic partner. The track shoes Klassic’s range as he sheds some of his Street-rap persona to allow himself to settle into a calmer flow that suits the mid-tempo Afro-pop instrumental better.

If you fancy the bubbling sounds of street rap music, Klassic is definitely an artiste you should get familiar with. He holds a lot of promise and with more variation in his sound and style, we might see him making songs that live up to his stage name.
