Spotlight Monday: Lussh

by Reuben Adewale

One way or another, you’ve definitely heard the producer tag ‘Lussh!!’ in one of the hit songs on the airwaves—our ears are no strangers to it. The person behind it is Lussh himself, a talented producer and singer/songwriter.

Coming from the vibrant side of Lagos State, Surulere, a place of sound and creativity, Lussh found something that connected him to music. Picking up the conga and percussion drums to play in his church choir, he tapped into the art of creating musical sounds that blend perfectly with melodic tunes.

He molded his skill as he continued to explore sound, with ultimate guidance from his uncle, a fine jazz artist and multi-instrumentalist who sharpened his iron, sharing knowledge and opening his eyes to the music business. Fast forward to years of hard work and smart working, Lussh has produced multiple hit songs that have got many of us dancing and humming along to his beats and melodies. Hits such as the 2016 collaboration between DJ SPINALL and Mr. Eazi titled ‘Ohema’ launched his professional music production career and became a smash hit.

From there onward, he blessed our ears with “Bia” by Seyi Shay in 2017, “Madu” and “Ayee” by Kizz Daniel that really had us in a chokehold, “Bobo” by Mayorkun & Davido that got everyone reciting ‘Na money be fine bobo’, “Nana” by Peruzzi, and many more—all of which stamped his name firmly as one of Nigeria’s fine music producers.

With all these successes and hit productions, Lussh appeared as an artist in 2019 with his collaboration with CKay and Terri on the song “11/10.” Three years later, in 2022, he became a full recording and performing artist and has released songs including his debut single “Hello”, followed by “I Dey Okay.”

Since his involvement in recording and making music, Lussh released his first project in 2023, titled “6Foot Lover Boy,” with six songs, featuring frequent collaborator Peruzzi. He crafted this body of work to reflect his emotions and feelings, with track one, “Ga’damn Fine,” describing the beauty of his lover in melodies. His run in 2024 includes his first single, “LET ME KNOW,” and his recent two-pack single “Facetime,” a mid-tempo track about his lover and the things he is willing to do for her, & “I AM,” an ode to his roots in Surulere, Lagos. On this track, he mixes English, broken English, and Yoruba to express where he is from.

Reflecting on Lussh’s journey, from the vibrant streets of Surulere to making hit after hit, it’s clear that his story is a testament to passion, perseverance, and creativity. As he continues to evolve, both as a producer and an artist, Lussh’s music will continue to spread worldwide.
