Port Harcourt-born Melody Olunne Amadi, simply known as Melodi, is a vibrant music artist with a unique and distinct voice that draws listeners in. Her passion and love for music led her to start as a vocalist in The Dreams Band, where her music caught the attention of popular acts like Johnny Drillie and Ric Hassani. Melodi’s detailed lyricism shines through in her songs, from her End SARS freestyle to her debut single ‘Boss’ in 2022. This track speaks about the motivation and joy she derives from her mother, serving as fuel for her journey to greatness regardless of the surrounding circumstances. With confidence, she asserts that she shines brighter than a torch and refuses to be seen as anything less than a boss.
Her debut track paved the way for ‘Medicine’, her second song a love ballad crafted from the heart. Fearlessly expressing her feelings, Melodi promises unwavering loyalty to her lover, even in challenging conditions. She compares her lover to medicine, an essential cure that completes her. Moving from ‘Medicine’ to ‘Only You,’ Melodi explores the theme of solitude. She acknowledges that people may leave during minor inconveniences, but she encourages listeners to embrace self-reliance. Ultimately, we only have ourselves.
All these singles led us to her debut EP titled ‘Something in a Name,’ hinting that Melodi truly embodies her name. The EP weaves her story and experiences into six songs. In the introductory track, she describes how her love for her partner drives her to the popular psychiatric hospital in Nigeria, ‘Yaba Left.’ In ‘Away,’ Melodi continues to demonstrate loyalty, willing to bear her lover’s pain and brighten their days.
The EP concludes with ‘Better Offer,’ a slow-tempo danceable tune where she navigates her love life, striving to get things right.
In all, Melodi emerges as a compelling voice that brings a new juice to the music scene.
