Spotlight Monday: Shamz

49th

by Reuben Adewale

Discovering artists who make smooth songs in the music world is exciting, and Shamz is one of them. The Afro-Pop singer, straight from Lagos State and Port Harcourt, two cities that have birthed multiple Nigerian stars, joins the list of those who came before him.

Shamz got into music-making fully in his third year of university, combining his love for music with schoolwork. All this happened through his love for music and artists who influenced him to make something of his own, including Burna Boy from the same city, Saint JHN, and many more.

His first single, ‘Blow My Mind’, displayed his lyrical skill and songwriting magic, which is reflected in his discography with songs like ‘Privacy’, ‘Wassup’, and his latest single of the year 2024, ‘Best Thing’ which serves as a message and confession to his lover about how he feels about her, while also reminiscing on the times they had, letting her know that he is truly the best thing for her.

This theme of love and affection can be found across his music catalog, mixed with stories and adventures that encourage one to enjoy every moment of life.

This blending of his melody and vocal delivery keeps listeners’ ears glued. According to him, ‘Melodies create vibrations, vibrations create feelings, and feelings give people something to remember.’ This shows the intention behind the songs he creates and makes.

With his sound and style, Shamz is definitely an artist to watch out for in the music industry. His love for music and dedication to his craft are evident in every aspect of his work. As he continues to do what he does best, we eagerly await more songs and projects on the way.
