So$e is one of the newest artists on the block, and with each new release, we learn more about the validity of his claim as a future superstar. While his first two singles demonstrated a good understanding of melodies, his latest one shows he possesses the important quality of versatility. “Amina” is a Hip-Hop single featuring the hottest act in the genre, Odumodublvck, and is a detour from the artist’s usual path of Afro-R&B. The May 5 release proved that So$e is a well-rounded artist, which should serve him well on his journey in this demanding industry.

So$e was born Ososelase David Onaburekhan, and although his interest in music has been since childhood, the early pointers indicated he would tilt more towards the production side of the business. He received early mentorship from a multi-instrumentalist and actually started his music career as a producer in 2013. Additionally, Dave So$e is currently a student at the Girne American University of North Cyprus, where he enrolled in a course to study sound engineering. But he always rightfully believed that he had more to offer as a recording and performing artist. The quality of his output as an underground act was sufficient to attract interest from the indie label Fact Entertainment in 2022.

His first effort upon signing to Fact Entertainment was released on January 27, and as far as debut singles go, “No More” was brilliant. The lyricism and the vocal performance were the best bits of the song that tells a heartbreaking story of letting go of a relationship that’s just not working anymore. The follow-up single, “Jara,” came two weeks later and was the antithesis of the first in many ways. On this song, So$e attempted to sweet-talk his way into a relationship. He employed a more laid-back approach on this track, emphasizing his ability to weave catchy melodies together instead. Just when we thought we’d gotten to the full picture of what he’s about, he flipped the script on us with the release of “Amina” this month.

Less than two weeks after its release, “Amina” has become the most streamed song of So$e’s young career. While many might quickly credit the song’s commercial performance to Odumodublvck’s presence, a close listen to the song will show that the So$e matched his guest for quality of performance, which is no mean feat. As he continues to reveal more sides of himself with subsequent singles, it’s likely that we are in for a few more surprises. That’s cause for excitement, considering the consistency in quality despite the stylistic diversity. We’re optimistic to see what’s next for So$e, and you should be too.
