Spotlight Monday: TKYO

Josiah Efeme, a Japanese-born Nigerian singer-songwriter known by his stage name TKYO (Pronounced as Tokyo), is a rising star in the Nigerian R&B scene. He infuses his music with a unique blend of Afrobeats, creating a smooth sound for listeners’ enjoyment. 

Drawing inspiration from prominent figures in the Nigerian R&B scene like Tay Iwar, as well as international artists such as Ty Dolla $ign and Chris Brown. 

TKYO’s songs captivate listeners with two main elements: the details in his lyrics, which narrate his story with precision, and the carefully selected instrumentals that complement his voice, resulting in a harmonious tune.

His voice is also captivating element that keeps listeners’ attention firm to his song.

 Since embarking on a solo career in 2019 after parting ways with his music group, TKYO has honed his sound, showcasing an electrifying and gripping voice that aligns perfectly with his music genre.

In April 2024, TKYO released his first official single, ‘Bxtch,’ to critical acclaim. He continued to delight fans with his latest two-pack single, ‘Sundown in TKYO,’ featuring guest artists Beezyx and Ema Onigah.

TKYO has also graced the stage of ‘234RnB,’ a Nigerian platform dedicated to amplifying and showcasing the rich music and culture of the R&B/Soul scene in Nigeria, making his an act to closely watch out for in 2024.
