Spotlight Monday: YDA

49th

YDA, a talented Nigerian born artiste and songwriter, is one to watch and get familiar with ASAP. Inspired by the likes of Tracy Chapman, he started recording covers of popular songs and a few originals of his own in his junior years in secondary school. The influence of the prominent artistes he listened to while growing up meant he was more of an RnB singer back then and released a song – “It’s On Me” – under that genre. But like a true professional, he adapted to the times and transitioned to Afrobeats music following his decision to do music professionally.

December 2017 saw him release his first official single “Blessing” to positive reviews and considerable airplay. “Amazing”, “One By One” and “Woman” are singles that followed over the years as YDA continued building a solid discography.

Despite the difficulties that come with operating as an independent artiste, YDA has done very well for himself and in November 2020, he put out his debut album titled “Make Am”. The 9-track Afro-fusion project addresses various themes from love to success and marks a bold representation of an artiste in it for the love of his art.
Check him out and see for yourself.
