Tems Joins San Diego FC as Club Partner – Bringing Music, Culture, and Community to the Pitch

In an exciting move that blends music, culture, and sports, San Diego FC (SDFC) has announced that Grammy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems is joining the club’s ownership group. Through her company, The Leading Vibe, Tems will bring her creative energy and passion for community to the world of soccer as a Club Partner.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, is a global sensation known for her unique, soulful sound and powerful artistry. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, she has taken the music world by storm, winning two Grammy Awards and earning an Oscar nomination for her work on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Her hit songs like “Love Me JeJe” and collaborations with artists like Future have made her a cultural icon, celebrated for her authenticity and ability to connect with audiences worldwide.

Now, Tems is stepping into the world of soccer, and she couldn’t be more excited. “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a Club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community,” she said. “Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”

For San Diego FC, Tems’ involvement is a perfect match. The club, which aims to unite communities through the global game of soccer, sees her as a visionary who aligns with their mission. “Tems is an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide,” said SDFC CEO Tom Penn. “Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission, and her commitment to creating opportunities for young talent reflects the core values of Right to Dream, our academy partner. We’re excited to create meaningful connections between the music world and San Diego FC, uniting communities through the shared power of culture and sport.”

Tems isn’t just joining the club on her own—she’s partnering with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm known for its work in sports and community development. Tunde Folawiyo, Chairman of Pave Investments, and Kwamena Afful, Founding Director, will also join the ownership group, bringing their expertise and global influence to the table. Together, they aim to amplify the mission of Right to Dream Academy and San Diego FC, inspiring and empowering communities both on and off the pitch.
