The 49th Guide To: Surviving without social media.

About a week ago, the world experienced a shutdown of some of our favourite social media platforms all run by uncle Mark and dare I say it was a moment of reflection for us. What if it’s the apocalypse? Or maybe it’s just another regulation to stop us from sharing our gossip online? Or the usual network provider jam?
Especially following the Twitter ban in the country, it’s only normal to expect the worst and find a survival manual. Here’s a guide to escaping boredom the next time the internet kicks you out:

  1. Start a music band:

Music is life and this might be the moment you’ve been waiting for to get famous. Before the invention of mobile phones, young people paid a lot of attention to guitars and pianos and made lovely beats from drums. You might even start a local fuji band and be the next best thing at owanbe parties. Don’t limit yourself to relaxing with your eyes glued to your screens, make beautiful music.

2. Take a walk around your neighbourhood:

Some of you have no idea what street passes behind your house and you’re there living in comfort. You don’t even think of a zombie invasion or a proper apocalypse happening. All you do is walk like a robot to your home every day and refresh Twitter to see if you still exist. Maybe it’s high time you took a stroll around and get yourself acquainted with the neighbourhood.

3. Engage the older people in your life to tell you their stories:

Storytelling is an art and even more than that, true-life stories are intriguing and there’s always something to learn from it. So the next time your phone goes off and you can’t view all the Instagram stories, nor tell your six boyfriends that you love them, maybe you can check in with your grandmother and listen to all the tea she has to offer.

4. Start painting:

It’s the era of digital painting and NFTs and if you have enough time on your hands, you might discover that Leonardo DaVinci has nothing on you. Install some of those apps while you still have the internet, and when next they blow up a mast or ban you from connecting to the internet, you’ll be creating beautiful images on your phone. You could even go a step further to create legit acrylic painting and give it some fancy name valued at a billion dollars.

5. Channel your inner Einstein:

Try to take some minutes out of your day to be a true scientist. You can add the wild hair for props and effect. There’s so much to still innovate in the country and if you’re not pressing your phone to impress strangers, you may be the solution to some of our problems. Who knows what you might discover; maybe a new way to talk to pigeons?
