The Man on the Strings – Nsikak David

by Reuben Adewale

Nigeria’s Nsikak David is one of the country’s finest guitarists, composers, and producers who has blessed many listeners’ ears with his amazing sound and striking strings from his guitar compositions. He plays and infuses them into different genres of music such as Afrobeats, Rap, Soul, Afropop, Jazz, and Blues. With stunning contributions to multiple fine projects that have come out of Nigeria in the last 10 years, he is one of the necessary ingredients in many songs we enjoy today.

With his knowledge and skill, we have got to experience and enjoy songs he has contributed greatly to, such as his soothing calm strings contribution on Cavemen’s highlife soul-touching track ‘Osondu’ from their critically acclaimed album ‘ROOTS’. With two guitar assists on Tekno’s ‘Old Romance’ project in ‘Tumbo’ and ‘In Love’, straight to his contribution on J Hus’s hiatus-breaking album with the track ‘Alien Girl’, where he sprinkled his juice not to mention his multiple and frequent collaborations with Show Dem Camp tracks.

Nsikak is one of Nigeria’s most brilliant guitarists to ever play the strings. From his electric, energetic, super performance at Rema’s O2 show in 2023, his performance was super amazing, and one could see the impact it had on listeners and viewers, with many talking about it on social media. Not only that, he is a great live performer with different shows and sessions, such as the Palmwine Fest, tour with Show Dem Camp where he shared the stage with the legendary Lauryn Hill, down to bringing his super high vibration to one of Adekunle Gold’s sets, and not to forget his beautiful Brit Awards performance with Rema earlier this year, blessing the stage with his hands and strings.

His NPR performance with Tems is one for the books, one of Tems’ most popular live recorded clips on the internet. You will spot Nsikak doing his thing as usual, and with his latest contribution to Tems’s debut album ‘Born In The Wild’ on the track ‘BOY O BOY’ and his strings magic on ‘Gangsta’, ‘Love Me Jeje’, and ‘Hold On’ you just know the man to call when you need guitar juice on your song is Nsikak!!

Among all these contributions to the Nigerian music industry, Nsikak is not just a great contributor to the music game but an essential ingredient in it.
