The Marvelous Misadventures of Buju

The internet is a living entity on its own, and one of its best attributes is that “the internet never forgets”. On this day of the Lord in July 2021, it has decided to remember the many scandalous tweets of @BujuToYourEars from back when he was just Daniel Benson to his limited sphere of friends and family. So apparently, it turns out that young Danny boy, before the fame and fortune, had a habit of airing his unadulterated opinions about the industry’s biggest artistes and their songs. No one was spared; from A-listers to upcoming acts, both male artistes and their female counterparts, Daniel Benson (not yet Buju) slapped them all around with the brutality of prime John Cena in the WWE. Curiously, a lot of the tweets were from 2015/2016, which places Buju at a much younger age at the time it was being tweeted; makes you wonder what was going on with him at the time. Perhaps, the pressures of passing WAEC and JAMB were getting to him so he needed an outlet? Or maybe he had his first taste of igbeaux and the savage in him could not be controlled any longer? We will never know for sure till he grants us an interview; but all we know is he took out time to drag everyone in the mud and not even the great footballer Lionel Messi was spared from the pandemic-like gbas gbos . Let’s focus on the Nigerian artistes that were choke-slammed by him, with receipts of course.

Wizkid; Not once, but twice! Young Buju had these to say about two of Machala’s biggest hits.

Runtown; This wicked young man did not hesitate to like our beloved hitmaker to an object. Such wickedness.

Davido; We all see OBO for the grown man he is, but Daniel Benson saw him very differently…

Yemi Alade; Buju’s opinion of Mama Africa’s lyrical content were, to put it mildly, very scathing

Mr Eazi; Mr Eazi was arguably topping the game in the year 2016 but Buju was far from impressed. As a multitasking savage that he is, he still had some spare time to bash Wizkid in the same tweet (whatever did Machala do to him?).

Timaya; The Egberipapa 1 (not 2, ONE ooh) of Bayelsa was seen on the streets of the TL, dragged like he stole laptop from computer village.

Rema; Not gonna lie, this one here’s a violation.

Buju is currently number 1 on the trends list in Nigeria, and of course the matter has been debated and analysed vehemently on social media, but it is worthy of note to highlight how people’s stance could change instantly, once its not in their favor.

The screenshot below shows how a fan account of a popular A list artiste switched allegiance in the twinkle of an eye, once he discovered Buju also rained Dracarys on his favorite artiste.

At the end of the day, it is mandatory to elucidate that we should be generally careful of our judgement of people based on things they have said in the past. We have all had our moments where we regretted the things we said in the past, giving room for us to form new opinion on matters and grow accordingly. Buju’s tweets do not in any way affect the excellence that he exhumes as an artiste, and he shouldn’t be judged on stances he held while younger.

That being said, we suggest you take a trip down memory lane and dig up past tweets which represent positions you don’t hold anymore, and once and for all DELETE THAT TWEET. E get why!
