Nigerian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Tim Lyre shares his hotly anticipated debut album ‘Worry <’ (pronounced ‘Worry Less’) with London and Johannesburg based label Outer South. The 9-track album features appearances from music powerhouses Lex Amor, Prettyboy D-O, MOJO AF, Tena Tenpo, Lady Donli, DAP The Contract, July Drama and Kobla Jnr.
Leading with ‘Present’, an Afro-fusion track about living in the moment, Tim explores different genres spanning Afrobeats, alté, Neo-soul and downtempo, positioning the project as a future classic in the alté canon. The leading track is accompanied by a colourful video shot by Nigerian creative director TSE.
In Tim’s words; “Present is a song about living in the moment. Personally I sometimes find it
hard to stay present in certain moments but I think we all deal with this as human beings. This song represents a rare moment in which I was truly able to fully express myself through music, from the lyrics to the production to the arrangement of the song, I felt what it meant to be fully switched on through this song.”
Having recorded the album over 3 years, pre and post-pandemic, Worry < was largely produced by Tim Lyre and owes co-production credits to super talented producers Le Mav, Ronehi, Higo and July Drama.
Speaking on the album, Tim says; “Worry < is my first album and as the name implies, I wanted to make an album the listener can plug in to and make all of his/her worries fall away. It’s music to relax to, to be happy or sad to, music to make you feel better, it’s music to soundtrack whatever situation you may find yourself in. If you can find a way to immerse yourself in the project, then I hope it can be as therapeutic for you as it was for me.”
Building a growing fanbase in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, Tim Lyre has been an integral part of the alté renaissance and has consistently churned out top tier alternative Afro-influenced music, including Real, which got him the highly coveted Africa Rising Artist of the Week on Apple Music.
