It’s another Friday and I’m back with my review of Ten of the hottest songs that have dropped.
Fireboy DML — Eli
THIS. IS. A. MASTERPIECE. On all levels. What?! The instrumental? The voice? The bounce? The delivery? The lyrics? Amazing! Coming off the back of “New York City Girl” (which I, honestly, didn’t find spectacular), Fire has something to prove and this is just the perfect number 1 song! Pheelz always finds a way to outdo himself, every single time. This song starts with the enchanting flute sounds. Fire talks of an enchantress in this song, a certain Delilah that’s got him trapped, and that’s exactly what this song would do to you, trap you in. Good replay value on this one too.
DJ Spinall — Everytime ft Kranium
DJ Spinall knows how to deliver a hit record. He knows how to handpick his features. He’s been exploring the international market fully for a bit now and it is just perfect that on his return back in the country, he drops something he’s gotten from his journeys; a feature with Jamaican giant Kranium. I’m in love with this song, totally. Kranium delivered something special on this one. It’s the ideal Nigeria/Jamaica collab
Kida Kudz — Buga ft Falz, Joey B
Kida Kudz has perfectly mastered this sound, this bouncy, jiggy vibe and “Buga” is another song on that list of jiggy sounds. The collab pairing on this one is particularly impressing. Falz and Joey B, heavy. This is Kida’s forte, and he comfortably bodied this one.
Tiwa Savage, De Mthuda — Dangerous Love (Soweto Remix)
Everyone is messing with the South African “Amapiano” craze right now. Tiwa is the latest Nigerian powerhouse to get on the Amapiano train. Together with De Mthuda, she delivers an Amapiano Remix to her newest hit single, Dangerous Love and it sounds like this song was meant to have an Amapiano Remix. It really is a vibe.
Korede Bello — Table For Two EP
Korede Bello is talented, no sane person would argue that. He’s got it, yet I still can’t figure out where it went wrong for the singer. However, I feel this tape is one way to win people back. Table For Two starts out with the Rexxie produced “Morire” which is a really good wake up, gratitude song (I particularly love the production on this one). Songs like “Sun Mo Mi” and “Mi Casa Su Casa” remind us of the pop star Korede Bello is. I really hope people get to listen to this, it’s beautiful
Tolani — Badman
I’m so in love with Tolani and her sound; I hope someone tells her this. If you ask me, she’s insanely talented. She can seamlessly move from R&B songstress to pop star, that’s crazy. She’s yet to miss. Her newest release “Badman” reminds me of Adekunle Gold’s “Call On Me” which many still see as the start of AG The Pop Star. Tolani came into her own on “Badman”, she definitely did not get lost in the sauce of this wicked instrumental. It’s my jam.
Ajebo Hustlers — Barawo
Ajebo Hustlers are a very interesting duo. The Port Harcourt boys have been putting out music for some time now but are gradually getting attention. “Barawo” is their latest single and I’m in love with it. I love a song with a good sing along catchphrase, I mean I can get into the vibe just repeating “this country nawa”. At some point i thought I heard Mr Eazi? With Barawo, Ajebo Hustlers have perfectly announced themselves. Lacking replay value, maybe?
Pop Boys, Hvrry — Done Did It ft Psycho YP
Psycho YP is always inpressive. He teased this song on his socials earlier this week and i loved it immediately. If you love YP, rhis new one is definitely going up on your playlist
OBT — Debit Lover
I found OBT with “Killah” back in 2018 and I’ve been a fan since then. Here’s new one, its called “Debit Lover”. Its an interesting release, with its somewhat funny theme, but one thing you will definitely find is OBT’s talent. He has this voice that I absolutely love. He seems to always have a perfect understanding with his producers and their production
Victor AD — Prayer Request ft Patoranking
WhenVictor AD broke out with “Wetin We Gain” and took home the Song Of The Year award at the Headies, the world was expecting another superstar. We did not get one. He’s somehow not lived up to that billing, that expectation. He’s back with another single and he calls it “Prayer Request”. (While I’ve my reservations about this) Victor AD goes back to the formula that birthed “Wetin We Gain”, that prayer kind of vibe song. I’ve put this on the Top Ten because I’ll like to come back and drop a review after a week
