This track is a rap song by artiste BABS. The track title suggests comparison to rap legend Jay Z but it’s his wealth rather the rap skills BABS is making allusion to, and immediately dispelling in the next line saying “Not yet, man.”
The lyrical content starts off introspective in nature, the rapper reflects: “Been stuck in this mind frame….searching for the truth and it’s still missing.” He moves to vivid description of what it’s like on the streets where he is from. “Real Glock kicking in like a soldier…put the metal to the head, not a crowbar” are lines from the second verse that suggest coming up in a place strewn with gun violence which gives him confidence he can survive anything, evident as he scoffs: “After dealing with all of these things people claiming that they badder than us?”
It may seem like a lot to fit into a 2-minute track but he stays in control of the narrative all through, making his point clear in few words. The second verse also sees BABS using a faux British accent to rap suggesting a strong influence of UK rap on his craft.
The production work is decent and the effects needed to set the mood for the lyrics are employed to good use.
Verdict: 6.5/10
