Vangei Official is an upcoming fashion brand in Lagos, Nigeria. The genius behind the beautiful designs is Lolu Vangei. They are an upcoming fashion designer from Cross River state but has spent the better part of their life in Lagos. Lolu has been interested in fashion all their life but started learning to sew in 2015- 2017.
They initially started designing with Ankara fabrics but never really liked it, so they stopped designing for a while. However, in 2018, after going through the Lagos Fashion week page, they was incredibly inspired and immediately knew that they wanted to pursue a career being a designer.
Lolu’s work is inspiring to say the least. They take a new approach to fashion, disregarding gender as a deciding factor; in who can wear or not wear a piece of clothing. They creates new, classy, unique designs with a touch of Afro-centric patterns.
In terms of fashion as we know it in Nigeria, one can say that their work is part of a new era. One that’s meant to change and dismantle the current fashion standards. Its beauty is in its unconventionality, the cuts of the fabric, the appearance, the time and attention to detail.
