Victor Osimhen with Turkish Cup title

VICTOR OSIMHEN’S HEROICS PROPEL GALATASARAY TO TURKISH CUP TITLE

Galatasaray’s man for the biggest occasions this season, Victor Osimhen, was the star of the show as Galatasaray SK thrashed Trabzonspor to clinch the Turkish Cup at the Gaziantep Stadium.

The Nigerian striker struck twice in the second half to help The Lions defeat The Black Sea Storm in Gaziantep. Galatasaray got off to a dream start as Barış Alper Yılmaz netted the opener in the 5th minute, and the scores remained unchanged at the end of the first half. Osimhen came alive in front of goal after the restart, netting a second goal for Galatasaray in the 46th minute. Yunus Akgün threaded a beautiful pass into Osimhen’s path, and he finished the rest brilliantly. Outmuscling the Trabzonspor defender, he powered the shot into the net, beating the goalie at his near post.

The same combo that produced the second produced the third goal in the 63rd minute. A lightning-fast counterattack left Trabzonspor struggling to contain Galatasaray’s attackers. Akgun skillfully evaded the opposition defenders and squared the ball to Osimhen for a simple finish. Game over! The Nigerian striker was substituted for Dries Mertens in the 72nd minute. Trabzonspor had a goal disallowed for offside in the 74th minute and could not find a way back as Galatasaray ultimately clinched the coveted title.

Victor Osimhen registered five goals across four appearances in the Turkish Cup this season, his journey culminating with a brace in the final. The 26-year-old striker helped Gala clinch their first Turkish Cup title in five years, a record-extending 19th title. For Trabzonspor, it is another loss in a consecutive Turkish Cup Final. With his brace in the final, the Nigerian striker shattered Mario Jardel’s 24-year-old record to become the foreign player with the highest number of goals in a single campaign for Galatasaray. Simply extraordinary!
