In 2018, the WeTalkSound (WTS) community started the LOFN compilation album series that has gone on to become influential. This series sees the hottest emerging acts across Nigeria collaboratively create love-themed music, and release under the WTS umbrella on Valentine’s Day.
Till date, the series has featured acts like Vader the Wildcard, Kemena, Meji, Naya Akanji, Dwin, The Stoic, Mo’believe, Viveeyan and more, who have gone on to grow and build impressive fan-bases from there. The LOFN albums have also received a lot of critical praise, with platforms like Pulse, Culture Custodian and MoreBranches heaping accolades on the community and artists. The last edition, LOFN 4 rose to the top of the Apple Music Alternative albums chart.
This year, the LOFN experience comes with an interesting twist – the album does not drop on Valentine’s. WeTalkSound is dropping a single ‘Ikogosi’ instead, and creating a build up to the album dropping later in the year.
Ikogosi is about uncertain love. Rindss sings about how annoying and confusing such love is, and how much she’s tired of her lover’s bullsh-t. The concept of the song is a play on the popular tourist destination, Ikogosi Warm Springs, where hot and cold springs meet. It’s the perfect metaphor for a lover who presents as ‘hot and cold’ in Rindss’ words.
Vader the Wildcard tries to play a reassuring role, spitting bars that leave us still questioning his sincerity towards his lover.
