Rising Nigerian stars YIIZI and TMZY released their debut collaborative EP, Money Over Love, this bold 8-track project delves into the complex modern struggle between love, ambition, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
More than just a title, Money Over Love reflects the unspoken trade-offs faced in relationships and survival, particularly for young creatives navigating purpose and pressure. YIIZI and TMZY craft a vulnerable, genre-blending journey exploring the tension between emotional needs and material aspirations.
“This project was born out of a need to document what we were both feeling and living through. It’s not about choosing one over the other—it’s about how life makes you negotiate between them,” says TMZY.

From the euphoric beginnings of Ayawa to the reflective closer Money Over Love, the EP maps a journey that feels both intimate and universal. Written and recorded in locations that mirror the rawness of the lyrics—from makeshift studios in Adeniji Adele to quiet, late-nightsessions—the project carries the spirit of two artists who are doing the work, even when the odds feel stacked.
Standout moments include Mind, which captures TMZY’s emotional state after a major deal fell through in 2023, and Somadina, a powerful reflection on how class and privilege affect relationships. Omalicha and Alicia bring a softer but no less complex perspective, diving into memory, toxicity, and the blurry lines between real connection and emotional dependence.

YIIZI, known for his grounded storytelling and sonic versatility, brings a spiritual and reflective tone to the project. TMZY’s writing, honest and direct, complements that energy with emotional sharpness and depth. Together, they’ve created a record that’s deeply personal but invites listeners into a shared experience. Money Over Love isn’t just about romance or hustle, it’s a full-circle moment for two artists putting their truth into sound.
