The world of African music today is experiencing an influx of young and fresh talent, some of which have been daring and impressive in their tread. It brings comfort to the hearts of music lovers, and art lovers at large, being faced with the hopes that the African art and creativity is in good hands. While these young creatives take the stage, it is important that a link is created between who they really are, their craft and their fans. This helps to establish an in-depth relationship between the artiste and the fans, improve the artiste’s impact and fan experience.

Today on uncovering the inside life of the artiste, we’d be taking a look into Loti’s sphere. Loti is a multi-genre artiste based in Lagos, Nigeria who has a lot of love and music to give.

49thStreet – Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Who is Loti?

Loti – Loti is a multi-genre artiste based in Lagos, Nigeria who has a lot of love and music to give.

49thStreet – How did you stumble on music? What was your first musical experience like?

Loti – It was way back 2013 in secondary school. My friend Mayowa (who is also an artiste) had this song in his head that he wanted to bring to life. He told me about it and I was both interested and excited so we ended up cutting school to go record. That’s where the love grew and never stopped growing.

49thStreet – Has music always been your one true love or you have some fishes in the sea that have caught your eye?

Loti – Growing up, I was very interested in shooting videos and acting. I still am, maybe one day.

49thStreet – What’s music for you, how do you relate to it?

Loti – Music is very special to me. I am very personal and intentional with it so it’s always given me an outlet to vent when I had none.

49thStreet – Who are some of your music influences and how have they impacted your music making so far? Have you sampled any of them?

Loti – Well some of my music influences include Drake, Partynextdoor, Burna, Nasty C, The Weeknd etc. Drake taught me how to be vulnerable with it, PND influenced my melodies and song writing, Burna for meaningful commercial lyrics,  Nasty C with the bars and constant flow switching and lastly The Weeknd for song writing and melodies also. I haven’t sampled any of them.

49thStreet – How has it been like so far for you singing professionally, coupled with performances too?

Loti – It’s been fun actually. The journey is way more exciting than the destination. I’ve been opportune to meet various talents and learn a couple things from them. There are so many geniuses in the Nigeria music industry and I sincerely wish we all make it through.

49thStreet – Looking back at your first body of work, Odyssey. What have you learnt so far? How has the journey been?

Loti – Asides being at a higher place creatively since Odyssey, I’m also smarter and have more knowledge of the industry on how to drop music, promote the songs etc. Every day I learn something new and that’s what’s most exciting about living in this world I’ve found myself.

49thStreet – What’s the idea behind your upcoming project, sins and scenes?

Loti – KD and I created Sins & Scenes to capture this special time in our lives as young adults. We have a couple teenage fantasies we are still bent on living out. It tells the story of a generation of people who crave love but not the commitment and accountability that comes with.

49thStreet – How did you meet KD? And what inspired a collaborative project between the two of you?

Loti – I met KD back at uni, he had great sounds and was smooth with it. So one day he asked me if I’d like to work and of course I was down. After we recorded our first song together TRPN, the chemistry was beautiful so he suggested we worked on a project together.

49thStreet – Realer has been one of your most talked about songs, can you tell us the inspiration to this magical masterpiece?

Loti – I really wish I had a cool story but sadly I don’t. It just kind of happened. KD sent another mad beat over and I did something with it.

49thStreet – Is there something you hope to achieve with this new body of work?

Loti – I’m trying to get more listeners and also keep making the old listeners proud for rocking with me.

49thStreet – Talking about your creative process, how do you feel when you write and create new sounds?

Loti – It’s a special feeling. The euphoria lasts the entire day.

49thStreet – You rap pretty well, are we going to be seeing more to that side of you?

Loti -Definitely, it’s something I love. Rap isn’t something you can conveniently push to the side.

49thStreet – If you had a chance to work with any artiste of your choice right now, who will it be?

Loti – Wurld.

49thStreet – What other interests do you have apart from making music?

Loti – I enjoy writing. Most people that know me from way back remember that I’m a poet.

49thStreet – I know everyone likes dodging this question but if you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Loti – Rice & Chicken Stew

49thStreet – In a superhero scenario, what do you think your superpower will be?

Loti – Haha I want to be fast to be honest.

49thStreet – While growing up, what was that fun thing you loved to do?

Loti – My mum used to take me to this fast food that had this kid’s basketball court. Man I loved it there.

49thStreet – Moving forward, what should we expect from the ‘rnbboy’ this year?

Loti – Well a lot of music, visuals and likes. I’m not planning on sleeping this year.

49thStreet – Lastly, what do you have to say to your fans?

Loti -Really appreciate you guys for the unwavering support. Put somebody on also, don’t be stingy.
