Over the years, we’ve seen that in music videos, the majority of artists in the Nigerian music scene did not put so much effort into looking very stylish in their music videos. Music videos are very integral parts of the music industry itself. Music videos allow for individuals to see what the artist feels, creating a deeper connection between the artist and the consumers.

The ultimate purpose of a music video is to promote the artist and their new song while entertaining the audience. The importance of music videos cannot be overemphasized. It is as important as the music itself. Music videos are often visual descriptions and depictions of the music itself. Hence, a music video is supposed to be an authentic, visual expression of the song itself.

It is important that any music video must have good visual contents to feed the public.Fashion & style plays a huge role in feeding good visual contents to the public. In the past, Nigerian Artists have only tried to do a good job by being very stylish in their music videos. In recent times, I believe we need to applaud those that have been doing the job of making artists look very stylish in their music videos, because they have been doing a good job.

It’s a known fact that fashion is progressive and as the years have come by, the ability to keep up with these different fashion trends in Nigeria is quite applauding. Back in the 2000s, Nigerian artists definitely didn’t use professional stylists and fashion designers as often—if at all they did. In recent years, there are set design, stylist, design team, makeup team, and all other individuals involved in the whole styling process of artists in Nigerian music videos.

The specialization of certain individuals in fields relating to making artists look extremely
fashionable in their music videos has truly brought about a lot of positive change in the
The Nigerian music industry.

I watched a music video of P-square from 10 years ago, and I feel Nigerians tried so hard to look fashionable by copying western fashion, thereby neglecting a lot of our cultural styles. In recent times, fashion designers and stylists have been able to fuse both the western style and indigenous ideas together, giving us that ultimate dapper look.

In old music videos, artists mostly wore just baggy T-shirts, baggy pants, alongside cool sneakers all through their videos. But, in recent times, Nigerian fashion designers have been really creative with the type of clothes they make and it’s commendable. Artists like Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, Davido, Adekunle Gold, Wizkid, and a number of other Nigerian acts have been known to always have this huge sense of fashion and style when it comes to their music videos—Kudos to their stylists.

We love to see our artists look very stylish in their music videos of course without neglecting
our Nigerian culture. The ability to maintain our culture and still have that huge sense of style
is a very creative one that Nigerian stylists have been able to pull off in recent years. There are lots of stylists involved in this process and I think every one of them deserves accolades for their impacts on music videos.

Our music has been discussed a lot more and because we’re in an era where fashion has become so important, it has become a plus for us.

The ability of our artists to look good in their music videos have brought about positive changes in their careers.

In addition, it would be nice if we merged our different creative scenes. Good fashion in our music videos is good publicity for Nigerian fashion designers and stylists. Credits should also be given to the minds behind these fashion directions

We know a number of foreign designers by their names, and they are upheld with much dignity and ratings, meanwhile we cannot mention a lot of them here in Nigeria. Some Nigerian stylists doing big things in their fields include Theangelictouch, Swankyjerry, Styledbyreus, Magpayne, RomaniOgulu, Kenepisode1, Eichiemoses, Soft and a number of others.

Fashion and style in music videos has proven to be as important as the music, and the artist itself.
