It’s another Friday and I’m back with my review of Ten of the hottest songs that have dropped.

Maleek Berry — Isolation Room Album

I’m a very big Maleek Berry fan, and as a fan, Berry does so well To never disappoint me. After what seemed like the longest break ever, Berry returns. Like a king, he’s returned proper! This seven track album is like a reminder. It’s Berry’s way of reminding us that he’s a KING. For me, he’s scored a 50 yard screamer and I’m going to go ahead and place this project in my Top 5 projects out this year.

Sam Smith — My Oasis ft Burna Boy

When Sam Smith announced his collab with Burna, the internet froze! We couldn’t believe our eyes. Some even doubted Burna’s ability to work well with Sam Smith. Not me, not staunch Burna fans, not avid music listeners. And Burna duly delivered on this joint. Burna’s range is unmatched. This collab will go on to be one of the best things to happen AfroBeats. Song is magic!

The Kazez — Jericho

Top 5. This song will easily make my Top 5 songs out this year and it won’t be number 5! This song is the perfect next generation song. Performed by young duo (twins actually), The Kazez, produced by prodigy P-Prime, engineered by Semzi, this song has the future of the scene all over it. I’ve not fallen in love with a song this hard at first listen in a long time. I am in love with this song. The Kazez are equipped with something unique; the ability to make a hit record. This is the perfect hit record — sing along, replay value, catchy hook, lovable catchphrase — this song has it all.

Patoranking — Abule

I was trying to examine this new Patoranking release and all I can see is Pato trying to give the “Nobody wey no fit make am” vibe another go. I like the experiment. Pato knows how to make these sort of records, actually Pato knows how to make any sort of record. And I’ll like to point out that Telz is having a great year and this is a fire production.

Reminisce — Insha Allah and Vibes EP

Reminisce is a father, in his own words “I own a daycare” and that is perfectly reflecting in his new sound. Just like he warned on the first track, this is a 30+ vibe. It’s that type of tape that you just sit back down and nod your head to, the type of tape that you just sit and soak in the cruise and vibes. Reminisce knows at this stage it is all vibes, not the type of hunger and anger he started out his career with. He’s accomplished, fulfilled, he’s got it all. Now it’s vibes and I’m loving it. “Over 2.5” is my vibe on this tape. For me it perfectly sums up what this tape is; vibes and cruise.

DJ Tunez, Wizkid — Cool Me Down

If by now you don’t understand that Wizkid makes music however he wants, he makes any kind of sound he wants at any point. The release before this was Smile ft HER and this new release with Tunez dropped and it’s another vibe entirely. Wizkid has mastered the art of moving between sounds at will, not bound by demand or trend, A KING

LAX — Lose My Mind

Zaza is underrated and it is sad. For people that appreciate and love good music, LAX is a name that will always cross your mind when you talk about good music. The man really doesn’t care, though. He’s unproblematic, he just wants to make his music. “Lose My Mind” is the perfect love song, with emotion-provoking lyrics. Definitely a song for days

YhemHi — YFTG

The scene’s next gen are steady churning out great music. This tape dropped exclusively on BoomPlay two days ago and it amassed over 4K plays in that period. That’s testament to how good this tape is. YhemHi has a unique sound, unique delivery. I’ll make a bold statement and say he is one of the artistes that I’ve listened to that know just how to perfectly read a beat. The tape YFTG — an acronym for YhemHi For The Girls — is littered with lots of lover boy, playboy, baby boy vibes. It’s the true representation of the title. His chemistry with go-to producer, El Nino is very plausible. I really hope this tape does well

Crayon — Sometime

I think Crayon is quite unlucky. He’s in a label with arguably Nigeria’s biggest new export (Rema). He’s not getting enough attention for an artiste that is putting in great work, making good music. His new single “Sometime” is a big vibe, something that would have torn parties up (bar the Rona). He has this bounce that I rate so well, and that bounce is ever present on “Sometime”. It’s a great song

Bliizzy — Governor

Bliizzy has range. That cannot be denied. He is one artiste that has come to understand the audience and he’s doing well to satisfy that audience. His last three releases have been three different vibes. I like “Governor” a lot, it’s laidback, shows another side to the artiste. The replay value on this is heavy too.
